Hong Kong aspires to be a leading innovation and technology hub
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin) participated at the 15th European Economic Congress 2023 in Katowice on 25 April (Warsaw time) to share Hong Kong’s economic updates and strategies to become a world-leading centre for innovation and technology (I&T).
In the panel session global trade and investment, the Director of HKETO Berlin, Ms Jenny Szeto, shared insights on how Hong Kong leverages its economic recovery for nurturing entrepreneurs, talents and research and development to support sustainable growth of strategic sectors, including I&T.
“In December 2022, our government has introduced the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint, which outlines the development directions and strategies to nurture Hong Kong as one of the most important I&T centres worldwide. The blueprint sets out four key development directions to unfold Hong Kong’s I&T potentials: to enhance the I&T ecosystem and promote “new industrialisation” in Hong Kong; to enlarge the I&T talent pool to create strong impetus for growth; to promote digital economy development and develop Hong Kong into a smart city; and to proactively integrate into the overall development of the country and consolidate our role as a bridge connecting the Mainland and the world,” Ms Szeto explained.
Hong Kong continues to pursue further sustainable growth by turning greener, smarter and more competitive for remaining one of the most eclectic and captivating cities in the world. As Asia’s largest fundraising hub for biotechnology, Hong Kong offers various incubation programmes for startups in strategic sectors. With close to 4,000 startups as of 2022, Hong Kong is the place in Asia to capitalise ideas and drive innovation.
