Business opportunities for Hungarian enterprises in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin), hosted a business luncheon on December 5 in Budapest (Budapest time) that gathered corporate leaders and government officials from Hungary to learn about Hong Kong’s latest economic developments and government initiatives.

Under the theme “Navigating the Gateway – Hong Kong as a Prelude to Asia’s business landscape”, Ms Jenny Szeto, Director of HKETO Berlin, introduced how businesses from Hungary can benefit from Hong Kong’s strategic advantages for further expansion into the Mainland and Asian market.

The Chief Executive’s latest Policy Address, entitled “A Vibrant Economy for a Caring Community”, primarily focused on creating an economy that ensures long-term prosperity and stability. Ms Szeto introduced the new initiatives for the business sector that aim at boosting Hong Kong’s strengths as a global hub for commerce and finance. The Government will also promote a “Headquarters Economy” to attract new enterprises and talents from overseas and the Mainland.

As part of Mainland China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Ms Szeto also highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a two-way platform, which facilitates cooperation, financing and professional services between Mainland China and the Belt and Road countries. With the strong trade relations between Hong Kong and Hungary, there is huge potential for Hungarian companies to seize opportunities under the BRI with support from Hong Kong.

Ms Szeto also shared latest updates about the latest facilitation measures for foreign staff in Hong Kong to apply for visa to enter Mainland China, which came into effect on October 26. The new measures that aim to attract enterprises, investment and talents include enabling foreign staff of companies registered in Hong Kong to apply for multiple-entry visas to the Mainland and enjoy priority processing.
