More than study opportunities at Austrian education fair
Spring started with Austria’s largest education fair BeSt from 2 to 5 March 2023 in Vienna. Jointly organised by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research and the Austrian Public Employment Service, 75 000 visitors interested in exploring different study and progression pathways attended the fair. Many of them took the chance to stop by HKETO Berlin’s booth to learn about the unique studying and living experience offered through various programmes.

The Director of HKETO Berlin, Ms Jenny Szeto, gave a presentation on 2 March 2023 where she introduced Hong Kong’s world-class universities as well as various opportunities for living and working in Hong Kong. These include the Working Holiday Scheme, the Talent List and numerous talent admission schemes that facilitate immigration to Hong Kong for young talents, such as the Top Talent Pass Scheme launched recently. More details about the diversified admission schemes are available at www.hkengage.gov.hk/en.
Hong Kong’s high-quality programmes are taught in English, and the universities adopt international standards in curriculum design as well as quality assurance. For postgraduate students, there are also abundant research opportunities in Hong Kong’s world-class institutions. To further support academic research in the higher education sector, the HKSAR Government has earmarked in its 2023-24 Budget HK$9 billion (EUR 1.1 billion) for universities and research institutes to enhance research in life and health technology and other frontier technology fields such as artificial intelligence and quantum technology.
BeSt education fair was also an ideal platform to promote the “Hello Hong Kong” campaign and share Hong Kong’s East-meets-West culture with not only the Austrian audience, but also youngsters from neighbouring countries like the Czech Republic, Hungary and the Slovak Republic.
